The Basic Counter Trey Vs. The 5-2 Front

     Basic Blocking Assignments:
TE: Block down. If DT slants inside, slam him if you can & bounce to the LBer.
RT: Block down on LBer. If DT slants inside you, block him; if DT won't allow you to release to LBer, block through the DT's inside half to the LBer level.
RG: Block down on Nose. If Nose goes away, slam him if you can and bounce to the backside LBer.
C: Block the backside half of the Nose. If the Nose slants playside, bounce to the backside LBer.
LG: Pull flat with the intent to block the DE out. If the DE slides inside, then you must log him in by blocking his outside half.
LT: Pull deep. Read the LG's block: If LG kicks the DE out, turn up the field and block the first defender you encounter. If the LG logs the DE in, get around that block and turn upfield.
FB: Aim for the backside B-gap. Collide with a 4- or 5-technique that closes behind the pulling tackle. If the defender does not close, be sure he goes upfield, then continue to the LBer level and block the outside LBer as he pursues.
TB: Shuffle left as on the lead draw, then plant your outside foot & push off for the playside. Take the outside handoff and run slightly downhill towards the TE's original position. You read the pulling tackle as a cue on whether to continue outside or break inside the kick-out block of the pulling guard.
QB: Open backside and bring the ball back to the TB as on the lead draw. Make the outside handoff and continue moving backside as if you were going to pass the ball.
WR's: Both wideouts simulate a short post route. Drive upfield hard and break at about 6 yards. The playside wideout will crack back on a filling safety. The backside wideout sprints across the field to block the deepest defender.

Let's look at some examples of these concepts.
