My name is Nic Rosato and I am the developer of ThirdnLong. I was an active coach for close to 20 years, both as a high school assistant and an assistant at several local colleges here on Long Island. Over the years, I've written and published articles about football and, when I left active coaching ten years ago, organized and presented clinics for coaches. ThirdnLong gives me a way to use my experience and communication skills to give back to the coaching profession.
The greatest challenge we face as coaches is the achievement of clear communication, both to our players and to our fellow coaches. Getting people to grasp the general concepts and specific details of our ideas is precisely what coaching is about. Our profession has always been willing to adopt technologies that could help us- from 16mm black-and-white film to video tape and computers. The current technologies, especially things such as digital video and the World Wide Web, offer even greater opportunites to improve our communication: Imagine, for instance, that the playbook you give your players is a CD or video tape; using these media , your plays are not static diagrams, but animations and video clips culled from game tapes.
